Jewish Burial Is a Mitzvah
Death is final, but it is not inexpensive. In Dallas, the average cost for a proper Jewish burial—including a plot, funeral director expenses, and burial services—runs between $12,500 and $14,000.
For some, this amount is unreachable. Sadly, therefore, more and more Jewish families in Dallas choose cremation in order to reduce the expense.
Jewish law, however, forbids cremation. This practice is considered disrespectful to the body that must return to the earth as “the spirit returns to God who gave it.”
The Dallas Jewish Burial Fund offers an alternative for people who might otherwise choose cremation.
When financial assistance would help a family avoid cremation, the Dallas Jewish Burial Fund steps in to provide the monies necessary for the mitzvah of a kosher burial and funeral.
